Bay Cliff Health Camp, established in 1933, is a non-profit, non-denomination summer therapy center for children and adults residing in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
Each summer, Bay Cliff provides an intensive seven-week therapy program for nearly 180 children with orthopedic disabilities, hearing loss, vision, and speech-language impairments. Children, who range in age from 3 through 17, are referred by their therapists and physicians for these programs. In addition to therapy classes, all of the children participate in activities geared to their abilities. Other programs include swimming, arts and crafts, nature, recreation, and camping. They go home with new skills, new friends, and memories to last a lifetime.
Bay Cliff also provides a one-week therapeutic recreation program for adults with physical disabilities. Known as Camp Independence, this program offers these adults 24-hour personal care while they participate in wellness programs, recreational outings and camping-related activities. It's an opportunity for adults with disabilities to experience the great outdoors and make new friends.
Bay Cliff as a campsite hosts numerous other programs such as outdoor education camp sessions for local area school children, educational programs for adults, and agency staff retreats. Bay Cliff is also a Midwest training site for adaptive paddling workshops that teach canoe and kayak instructors how to integrate adults with physical disabilities into their paddling programs.
